My family and I started collecting shells, glass balls and sea glass since we moved to Lana’i in 1998. It’s always been displayed in vases in our home, until two years ago when I started making my own jewelry.

It takes me hours and sometime days to finish a pair of earrings. The process of finding a matching pair, cleaning them, drilling holes and then putting everything together using wire or chains is not easy. Sometimes I think it’s a great way to get your mind off things as you get into the process but many times it’s a darn pain in the ass and hella frustrating. The most devastating thing that happens to me quite often is cracking a shell after taking months or even years trying to find a matching pair!

Knowing I’m not a patient hole driller I tend to buy jewelry from professionals. I will not take the chance of cracking one of my unique, tiny, frail shells.

Thai Airways Royal Orchid Silk Lounge and Royal Orchid Spa

Thai Airways really knows how to keep their elite customers happy.  With a total of eight Royal Silk, Orchid and First Lounges in the Bangkok Suvarnabhumni International Airport finding one of their lounges was not difficult at all.  The beautifully dressed staff members are swarming everywhere and very attentive.  The wide variety of Food is quickly replenished before the trays are empty and very tasty.  I couldn’t stop myself from eating the ham sandwiches and steamed buns, they were just so dang good!

The Royal Silk Lounge in Concourse D was the largest of the three we visited.  It seemed like it took the whole side of the upstairs concourse, it just kept going and going. There are several food and beverage food stations within each seating area so there was no need to walk far to find a bite to eat or beverages to sip on.  If you have time to kill, walk around the terminals to find a lounge that suits your needs.  After visiting 3 of 6 lounges offered to Business Class passengers I came to realize all the lounges offer the same food and and beverage and most of all the amenities, the only differences between them were the size and some of the facilities (Concourse A doesn’t offer slumber rooms, showers and full Buffet Bar.  Concourse C & E – East don’t have slumber rooms). A detailed list of the Royal Silk Lounges at BKK can be found on the Thai Airways website

The reason I found this particular lounge was because I was looking for the one and only Royal Orchid Spa.  The Zen like feel of the Spa hits you as soon as you arrive with orchid plants, floating wood walls and tastefully picked furnishings.  Like always the staff is gracious and offer healthy snacks and beverages, there’s no buffet and large beverage stations in the Spa.   Business Class passengers are entitled to a 30 Neck & Shoulder or Foot Massage while First Class passengers can choose from 60 minute full body massage and the 30 minute treatments.

I finally found a comfy seat and got settled as I anxiously awaited for my treatment.  While sipping on my tea and checking my messages on my phone I realized I only had 40 minutes until my flight started boarding.  I was pissed! That wasn’t enough time for me to get my treatment knowing I had to wait another 10 minutes.  After all months of anticipation I wasn’t able to experience a Royal Orchid Spa treatment, not even see the facilities.  Bummed out is not even the words to describe my icky feeling in my head and shoulders that were yearning to get massaged.

FYI:  No guests allowed and the Spa doesn’t accept advance reservations for any treatments.
Passengers requesting spa and massage services in the lounge should arrive early to place
their names on the wait list.

I guess that just means I’ll have to wait until I return to Bangkok in the future to experience the Spa services and facilities personally. Since Thailand was already on my list of countries to visit I’ll just have to move it up the list so I can visit sooner than later!

Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay

Four Seasons Resort Bali at Jimbaran Bay was an absolutely wonderful getaway. As soon as we drove through the gates and down driveway towards the resort the excitement started stirring up in my belly.  The colorful, nicely manicured flowers and landscaping along side the pathways and buildings lead us to the main lobby with breathtaking views of Jimbaran Bay.

We were taken to our Villa on a golf cart, luggage handled and set in the dressing room area, doors opened and delicious amenity treats ready for our arrival.  The villas are private and large inside and out.  The outdoor area had a private plunge pool, lounge area, open air shower and living area with lots of seating.

The room had me speechless and gave me the feeling of “home” as soon as you entered.  The vaulted ceilings, poster bed with netting and open concept had me giggling inside that this was my home for the last three days of my Bali vacation.  I continued roaming through the room and found the deep tub with plumeria flowers on the neck pillows.  There were large windows lining the bath area with a clear view of the beautiful landscaping and outdoor shower.  There was a door that led to the shower area making it easy for us to rinse off before heading into the indoor shower or tub.  The room amenities were as usual plentiful and always stocked daily.

There are three dining options on property:  Sundara is a beach club during the day and ocean front restaurant and bar at night.  We had dinner at Sundara the first evening we were there and couldn’t get enough of the jaw dropping sunset views.  The food was fantastic, service attentive and creme brûlée so creatively done.  I absolutely love creme brûlée and order it each time we go to a different restaurant, this particular one had fresh berries on the bottom which made it even more scrumptious!

The Pool Terrace Cafe serves lunch next to the infinity pool, just down the stairs from the main lobby area. We didn’t dine here but did enjoy the views and dipping our feet in the pool. Instead we went back down to Sundara for lunch so we could stroll the beach for shells, eat sushi and nachos, and jump in the pool!

Breakfast and Dinner is served at Taman Wantilan with two large open air Balinese designed structures overlooking the property.  We had breakfast here each morning and enjoyed the selection of Balinese food.  The breakfast buffet was HUGE and had lots of options to chose from, my belly was filled to the limit each morning.  The staff was very prompt in taking away our plates and also assisting us with figuring out what each dish was. The fried rice, noodles, eggplant, banana fritters and other Balinese offerings were so darn good. I was already excited to see what their menu was going to be like the next morning!

With three pools spread out around the property there was more then enough space for everyone.  The large infinity pool is located next to the Pool Terrace Cafe. There were covered tables, lounge chairs and stunning views of the ocean.  Right below the infinity pool was another pool which looked like the family pool with a large waterfall wall and two hot tubs across from the pool.  The Sundara pool is steps away from the beach and the best place to watch the sunset. We spent most of our time at this pool since it was closest to the beach.

I had plans to use one of the resort’s paddle boards but ended up curling up in bed instead.  There are first-come- non-motorized water equipment, some free some with fees. Having the option to enjoy these water activities were great, it’s unfortunate that I didn’t have the energy to make use of them.

There was no need for me to visit the Fitness Center while we were there since a lot of walking was done getting around the huge property.  We could’ve used the complimentary golf cart service but decided to walk around the property so we could see as much as we could. The property is situated on the hill so we got our daily leg workout!

Even though my stay here wasn’t very long I enjoyed every second of it. I’m always wanting to explore and see new things, this resort made me want to stay put.  I couldn’t get myself to leave the property, that means this was one of my favorite places I’ve been to yet.  I can’t stop thinking about our gorgeous villa, the fabulous pools and yummy food at Four Seasons Bali at Jimbaran Bay and hope to visit again in the future!

About Me

Khyla was born on the island of Maui and raised on the island of Lana’i and Big Island.  Her love for the ocean and mountains were inspired by the Hawaiian islands she has called home for the past 17 years.  Khyla loves to skate, surf, swim, fish, snowboard, ride roller coasters, eat, explore and get pampered. She adores animals and has three English Bulldogs and a Pitbull/Labrador.  Since she is the only child these furry animals has been her companions.

Khyla has always been an adrenaline junkie.  Her need for speed started once she was able to ride on an ATV, she’d always push the throttle to it’s limit.  Finding higher and faster roller coasters were another thing she looked forward to.  Now you’ll find her in the ocean catching a wave or riding on one of her many skate boards down a super steep hill.

Khyla has always dreamed of being an independent model.  She was offered a modeling contract when she was 16  years old but decided to not pursue her dream at the time.  Now that she’s finally out of high school and has more time to focus on her career she’s decided to model and promote things she loves!
